To celebrate the P-47D on the Microsoft marketplace we have made this special livery. We hope you like it.

Please ensure that you buy the correct version for your game. This is the MSFS version or MSFS2020 or Microsoft flight simulator version. Refunds are not possible should you have made a mistake and bought the wrong version.

The Republic P-47D for MSFS2020 has been built with the SDK as shipped with version 1.36.20 ( post System Update XIV ) of the Microsoft Flight simulator.

When the game is updated we will re test the Republic P-47D for MSFS2020 and will issue fixes ( if possible or required ) and/or notifications of this update or lack there of.

It is not known at this stage what ( if any ) change may or may not be required for the next version of MSFS2020.

Remember to check the installation directions PDF that should be found in the zip file of your purchase with regards to where the files will need to go.

Updates and upgrades will always be emailed to the email you used to purchase.

The inclusion of Nazi insignia in products created for the purposes of entertainment is outlawed in many countries. Because this product is sold in those regions, we are unable to include historically accurate kill markings on the aircraft, nor will we be able to release a separate historically accurate package for optional download.

Should you choose to modify the files and make the requisite changes yourself, or download third-party livery modifications, you will not hold Aeroplane Heaven responsible for those actions.

Should you purchase from any store outside of the MSFS Marketplace you will receive the Gun effects and the ability to load the bombs in the option screen.

Xbox users will not be able to select or have these options.

For PC users who have bought from the MSFS Marketplace it is our intention to have a freely downloadable addon to enable this functionality post purchase. We will then put it in the download section above.

Republic P-47 D 'Razorback'

The P-47D ( or the Jug as it was affectionately known ) was one of the heaviest fighters of World War 2 with a fully laden P-47 topping the scales at a portly 8 tonnes. This weight required a very powerful engine. The same engine that powered the F6F Hellcat and the Vought Corsair, the Pratt and Whitney R2800. Coupled with an impressive load out capability and very capable 50 Calibre machine guns the Thunderbolt resulted in a very capable medium range escort fighter and excellent ground attack fighter.

But there was an issue. Visibility. The Razorback whilst strong ( some returned safely with very large amounts of the plane damaged. ) had an issue with rear visibility. The fix was found by a visit to the RAF. The RAF also had this issue on some of their aircraft and had in fact lent their design for canopies to another famous USAAF aircraft the P51 ( also available ). In this case the answer lay in the Hawker Typhoon with an all encompassing all round vision “bubble top”. And the razorback was retired from production in favour of the Bubbletop

P-47s were operated by several Allied Air Forces during World War II. The RAF for example received 240 razorback P-47Ds, which they designated Thunderbolt Mark I. Since there wasnt a need for a high-altitude fighter in the RAF ( the superb supermarine spitfire filling that role admirably ) the RAF used their Thunderbolts as ground attack. Rather like the Fairchild Republic A-10 thunderbolt in use today. And yes the A-10 takes its name from its WW2 grandfather - The P47-D "Thunderbolt".
