Curtiss SB2C "Helldiver"

The Curtiss SB2C had a difficult start to its career. Initial prototypes were underpowered which led to handling difficulties and less than admirable performance. However, by the end of WW2, the "Beast" as it became known, had carved out an enviable combat record and justly deserved its place in US Naval aviation history. The aircraft was/is a difficult aircraft to fly well and presents a challenge to both real-world and virtual pilots alike.

Heavy and aerodynamically "unstable" the SB2C demands all your concentration and is a pilot's "hands-on" aircraft at all times.

The introduction of the powerful Wright R2600 Twin Cyclone engine and four-blade Curtiss propeller transformed the design and the SB2C-3 and -4 became extremely capable anti-shipping and submarine attack aircraft, more than capable of keeping pace with the fast fighters of the day.

The model is beautifully detailed and finished with exceptional levels of authentic detail including the twin machine guns mounted in their frame in the rear cockpit. Two authentic crew are fully animated and other features include all opening hatches and bomb-doors, a selection of loadouts including bombs and rockets, working tail-hook and of course those huge folding wings with their perforated dive-flaps.

We have our unique "stutter" starting routine with stereo sound for the big Cyclone radial and realistic procedures in a fully detailed, authentic cockpit. Beautiful specular effects for the paintwork and volumetric props create an authentic look and feel for the whole package. This simulation covers the SB2C-3 and -4 variants.
